The authorities of Germany, France , Austria, Belgium , Denmark, and Sweden spoke in favor of the extension of border control from the middle of May within the framework of the Schengen Borders Code’s norms, reported RIA Novosti. The countries sent a written proposal to the First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans and the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos, suggesting to extend the border control at least for another six months, which will allow a better control over migration flows.

"We call you on introducing the proposal to the European Council , so that the council allowed the EU member states that consider it necessary to extend or introduce a control at the internal borders of the Schengen area since May 13 ," reports Deutsche Welle referring to the quote from the letter.

Next week the European Commission may approve that norm, reports Ria Novosti. Europe suffers the biggest migration crisis since the Second World War caused first of all by a number of armed conflicts and economic problems in the Middle East and North Africa . According to the EU border agency Frontex, 1.8 million migrants arrived to the European Union in 2015. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Germany, more than one million refugees arrived in Germany in 2015.
