YEREVAN. – Recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Armenia is preferable in terms of international security, political scientist and Modus Vivendi Center Director, Ambassador Ara Papyan, stated at a press conference on Monday.

In his view, Nagorno Karabakh’s participation in the peace talks is unlikely. As per Papyan, even if other countries were to recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Azerbaijan could say, “But I don’t recognize [it], and that’s that.”

So, as per the analyst, it would be better if Nagorno-Karabakh is recognized as part of Armenia. And Armenia, in Papyan’s words, needs to become a strong country; that is, it should balance its relations with other countries and strengthen its economy.

“And Azerbaijan should be deprived of the main source of [its] income,” he added.

Ara Papyan also noted that, in the diplomatic front, it needs to be seen to it that those countries—i.e. Turkey and Belarus—, which make unilateral announcements regarding the Karabakh conflict, need to stay out of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group.
