YEREVAN. – The permanent population in Armenia has declined in the first quarter of 2016, Karine Kuyumjyan, Head of the Census and Demography Division at the National Statistical Service of Armenia, noted at a press conference on Monday.

In her words, the permanent population in Armenia is  2 million 994 thousand 400 people, as of April 1 of the current year, and the country’s population has dropped by 12,300 persons, as compared to the same period last year.

“We assess the population migration indicator on the basis of the data received as a result of the integrated research of the households [in Armenia],” Kuyumjyan said. “[Accordingly,] the population [in the country] decreased by 4,200 [persons], against  the beginning of the year.”
