YEREVAN. - The Lithuanian Embassy in Armenia and Municipality of Yerevan will for the first time hold an interesting event entitled Street Music’s Day in downtown Yerevan Saturday.

Singers and musicians will perform their works from 4:00 to 8:00 pm mainly in the Northern Avenue, Liberty Square and Charles Aznavour Square, turning the ordinary weekend of Yerevan residents into a holiday.

According to the Lithuanian Ambassador to Armenia Erikas Petrikas, the idea belongs to one of the Lithuanian actors, Andrius Momontovas.

“He simply asked all those who wish to take to the streets and play. Currently we already have 400 musical bands in Lithuania, who are registered in 18 cities. Vilnius is on the lead by 150 bands, being followed by Kaunas and Klaipėda with 100 and 30 bands respectively,” Petrikas said.

In the Ambassador’s words, people not only go out to try their hand and show themselves: the event also has a social dimension.  “Knowing the high level of music and culture in Armenia, from the first days of my visit I have been admiring the fact that people understand music. We thought this would be a novelty for them. Let them try, why not?” Petrikas noted with a smile.

Lithuanian 4FUN  band and Armenian singer Hayko, who competed in Eurovision contest, will perform together as friends that day, the Ambassador said.

“4FUN and Hayko will meet on stage in Yerevan like Lithuania and Armenia. It’s very pleasant that Yerevan is joining this holiday for the first time. This is a very important moment for me. It’s very pleasant for me that in 2016 – on the 25th anniversary of our diplomatic relations – this wonderful music festival will be held in Yerevan,” Erikas Petrikas concluded.
