The death toll from floods and landslides in Sri Lanka rose to 71, 127 more are reported missing.

Foreign rescuers have arrived in Sri Lanka to assist those affected by the strongest floods in the last 25 years. According to the meteorologists, the tropical cyclone Roanu causing flood in several areas of Sri Lanka, is leaving the region and ismoving towards Myanmar, RIA Novosti  reported quoting AFP.

According to the national center of extraordinary situations, 428 thousand people have been affected by the disaster in one way or another nearly 300 thousand are relocated to temporary housings.

The landslide hit several villages of Kegalle District on Thursday morning, many houses were destroyed. Hundreds of people were buried under debris. The rescue operations are underway.

As the national office of the Red Cross previously reported, a new landslide occurred in Sri Lanka on Friday near the camp where people were displaced after evacuation. This landslide are the most powerful in the country's history.
