The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) should return to the negotiation table, European Parliament Deputy Frank Engel told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

According to him, the negotiations are meaningless without Nagorno-Karabakh.

“The NKR controls its territory and its military forces are on the ground. The people of the NKR have repeatedly decided by referendum that they want to be an independent state, with their own representative democratic institutions and respect for the rule of law. Negotiations must take place with those institutions,” he said.

Earlier, Russian Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, Igor Popov, told Armenian News – NEWS.am that Nagorno-Karabakh should return to the negotiation table,

“I suppose that at a certain stage, for instance after reaching a framework agreement, the Karabakh people must return to the negotiation table, since the issue concerns the people who live and will live there,” Popov noted.
