YEREVAN. – The statue of Hero of the Soviet Union, Chief Marshal Hamazasp Babajanyan of the ex-USSR Armored Tank Troops, was unveiled Monday at the park adjacent to Babajanyan Street in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan (PHOTOS).

President Serzh Sargsyan, defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, and several foreign army officers also were in attendance to the event.

Ohanyan, and statue’s sculptor Hamlet Martinyan and his granddaughter unveiled the work.

Subsequently, the President and the others in attendance laid flowers at the statue.

In addition, Grandmaster Rafael Vaganian and Chess Federation of Armenia (CFA) Vice President Hovik Khalikyan handed to President Sargsyan—who is also CFA President—Marshal Babajanyan’s chessboard, which his heirs have donated.
