The new Turkish PM Binali Yildirim will do only what Erdoğan orders him, researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Victor Nadein-Rayevski, who is also a political analyst and turcologist, told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

The turcologist has no particular expectations in connection with the change of the head of the Turkish executive branch.  “Although under the Constitution the prime minister has much more privileges than the president, the situation is so that the president has aligned almost all the power with himself by already non-constitutional means. The new PM is put in charge of the country for that very purpose.  Thus, it’s needless to expect serious changes, which could lead to changes in the [country’s] foreign policy: the domestic policy is now coordinated by Erdoğan,” Victor Nadein-Rayevski stressed.

The new PM will most likely not be able to hold his own events as a politician. “He will try to ascribe the worsening of relations with Russia to Davutoğlu, specifically the very fact that exactly he gave an order to down the Russian jet in Syria, especially considering that Davutoğlu stated about this officially. But this was, of course, a chatter, since the commander-in-chief of the armed forces is not the PM but the president. Thus, this was an attempt to shield Erdoğan,” Nadein-Rayevski said.

Although the current Turkish PM once spoke in favor of improving the ties with Russia, he isn’t an independent figure.

Former Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim was elected on Sunday as the new leader of the ruling AK party.
