The dreadful barbarity committed by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces recently is incompatible with the basic norms of civilized world.
Armenian Deputy FM Ashot Hovakimian stated the aforementioned at the World Humanitarian Summit held in Istanbul from May 23-24.
The summit dedicated to the humanitarian issues, which the humanity currently faces, as well as ways of overcoming them, was organized by the UN, being first of its kind.
In his address, the Deputy FM noted: “The dreadful barbarity committed by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces recently, including the intentional and extended targeting of civilian population, especially children, women and elderly people, and civilian objects, including schools and kintergardens, as well as murders, beheadings, tortures and mutilation of the victims’ bodies, is incompatible with the basic norms of civilized world. All this is a result of a long-term policy of racism, intolerance and encouragement of hatred against Armenians, which is carried out in conditions of direct permission by the Azerbaijani authorities. The regular and gross violations of the international humanitarian law by Azerbaijan and the high political level glorification of people directly engaged in the crimes are per se crimes against humanity and war crimes.”
Referring to the speech made by the Azerbaijani President at the summit Monday, Hovakimian stressed: “The Azerbaijani President, who is personally liable for initiating the aggression and glorifying those who commit terrorist and ISIL-style barbarism, disseminated concocted accusations against Armenians from here yesterday. The lies told by him have nothing to do with the reality. Armenia definitely has no plans to make nuclear weapon and the Armenian Armed Forces have certainly never used a chemical weapon. Considering the pleasure the Azerbaijani President engages in when citing the words of the former Armenian officials, it would definitely be better for him to cite one of his predecessors, who accused the then political leadership of Azerbaijan for massacring its own people in Khojaly.”
Hovakimian also referred to the issue of the migrants who have arrived in Armenia from Syria, as well as the activities of the Armenian Government aimed at providing them asylum. He also attached importance to the support provided by the international community to the migrants and those displaced, stressing that the dignity, human rights and fundamental freedoms must have universal application regardless of the status of the people’s residence.
The Armenian delegation also attended round table discussions dedicated to the prevention of conflicts, as well as issues of the support to the migrants and those displaced.
Apart from this, the Armenian Deputy FM made an address at the event held by Liechtenstein MFA and dedicated to the prevention of genocides.
