The record heat in India has caused melting of asphalt on the roads, NDTV reports.

According to the witnesses, shoes are scattered in many places, people hardly being able to cross the roads.

In Gujarat, where the video was captured, the temperature rose to 36 degrees Celsius. The town of Phalodi in India’s Rajasthan state has set all-Indian temperature record of 51 degrees. Meteorologists warn of further increasing of the temperature; the emergency services are struggling with regular blackouts, which is necessary for the operation of fans and air conditioners.

The heat has overall struck thirteen states, with approximately 330 million people. Hundreds of deaths from heat stroke have been recorded. Tens and thousands of farmers whose crops are dead are moving to cities to survive the year of famine. There are also those who commit suicide. Rivers, lakes and reservoirs have also dried up in the states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
