YEREVAN. - From the viewpoint of culture, the statue of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Chief Marshal Hamazasp Babajanyan of the ex-USSR Armored Tank is merely terrible, artistic director of Yerevan’s Puppet Theatre, Ruben Babayan, told Armenian News – NEWS.am.
The puppeteer turned out to be dissatisfied not only with the form but also the content of the statue. According to him, the statue of the “executioner” shouldn’t have been installed in Yerevan
The specialist was happier with the statue of the prominent Armenian state and military figure Garegin Nzhdeh. “The time had long ago come to install Nzhdeh’s statue in the square named after him,” Babayan said. However, it turned out that he had not yet seen the statue which he was praising.
Both statues which were unveiled in Yerevan Wednesday came under fire by art and culture critics.
