YEREVAN. – The Nagorno-Karabakh issue should be discussed within the framework of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group.

Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Seyed Kazzem Sajjadi stated the aforementioned at the symposium, entitled “Persian Literature and History,” which got underway Thursday at Yerevan State University, in the capital city.

In the ambassador’s words, Iran has always tried to prevent hostilities between the Armenian and the Azerbaijani parties to the Karabakh conflict.

To the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter’s query on whether the destructive actions of Azerbaijan are an obstacle to peace in the region, Sajjadi responded: “This issue should be discussed within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, and a peaceful resolution [should] be achieved through negotiations.”

Reflecting on the possibility of deploying peacekeeping forces in the conflict zone, the Iranian diplomat noted that his country has always endeavored to make calls for restraint to the conflicting parties.

“And this matter depends on the decisions by the senior officials of the two countries,” added Seyed Kazzem Sajjadi.
