President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who is also the Chairman of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Council, received CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha Thursday. The latter has arrived in Armenia in the framework of the consultation of the heads of ministries of internal affairs (police) of CSTO member states and the Cobalt 2016 military drills held from May 24 to 26.

The President attached importance to the organization of the aforementioned events, expressing hope that the development of efficient mechanisms on solving the pressing issues in the consultation’s agenda and successful implementation of operative and technical tasks in the framework of the mentioned military drills will allow to record progress in the improvement of the coordination of the CSTO member-states’ efforts  towards reinforcing the anti-terrorism counteraction potential of fast response collective forces fighting against international terrorism and extremism

Sargsyan underscored the need of establishing legal and practical framework for preparing events aimed at counteracting the threats.  In this context, the President expressed conviction that the comprehensive organizational and practical events, which will be prepared during Cobalt 2016 military drills, as well as other operative and preventive measures, will contribute to the growth of the effectiveness of joint operative-reconnaissance and preventive measures in the area of counter-terrorism.

Bordyuzha reported to Sargsyan on the events held in Yerevan, stressing that the representatives of all the countries highly assessed them, the drills being considered as one of the most successful ones.

The meeting also addressed regional security, priorities of the Armenian Chairmanship in CSTO, as well as issues related to the cooperation of CSTO with other international organizations.
