YEREVAN. - If Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh hadn’t attached serious attention to the army, Azerbaijan would hardly have been defeated.

Spokesperson of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also the Deputy Speaker of Armenian National Assembly (NA), told the aforementioned to journalists Thursday after the RPA Executive Body meeting, responding to the criticism of former NKR Defense Minister Samvel Babayan.

Commenting on Babayan’s return from Moscow, he noted: “He is a citizen who has returned. Any citizen has a right to return and relocate. We welcome his return.”

Babayan earlier gave an interview, stating that the Armenian and Artsakh authorities didn’t attach sufficient attention to the army. “[However] During the four-day war, the Armenian and Nagorno-Karabakh Armed Forces carried out their task, the Azerbaijani blitzkrieg failed, not being able to occupy any settlement. No unilateral concessions have been recorded. Following this, the positions of the Armenian side in the diplomatic field have become stronger,” Sharmazamov stressed.

This, according to him, shows that during these years serious attention was paid to the issues of security insurance.
