YEREVAN. – The Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, on Thursday met with Council of Europe (CoE) Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks, in Strasbourg, France.

The ombudsman’s office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that Tatoyan briefed Muižnieks on the Azerbaijani armed forces’ recent atrocities against the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh), and stressed that these acts of violence are a consequence of the anti-Armenian policy being conducted with the high support of Azerbaijan.

He said, considering the fact that the recent Azerbaijani aggression was directed at the NKR civilians and that the protection of people’s rights is a priority, the human rights and democratic institutions of Artsakh likewise need to participate in international discussions.

In addition, the interlocutors conferred on the implementing of joint projects toward the introduction of European human rights standards in Armenia.

At the end of the talk, they expressed readiness to actively collaborate toward carrying out joint projects and achieving important results in the matters they discussed.
