President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev told the Azeris how well and happily they live under his wise leadership.

Aliyev said the aforementioned at the official reception held on occasion of an Azerbaijani national holiday, Republic’s Day, Oxu.Az reports. The President noted that all the democratic institutions function in the country, all the freedoms – freedom of speech, press, assembly and political activity - being ensured. According to him, there are and will be no restrictions here.

Comparing the manifestations of pressure on the public in Azerbaijan and democratic states, Aliyev concluded that the accusations addresses at the Azerbaijani authorities are groundless. “End should be put to this policy of double standards. This has become unbearable,” Aliyev said.

“The target is of course the political leadership of Azerbaijan and me, since I am the head of the state and determine Azerbaijan’s policy. The Azerbaijani people and me are the guarantors of Azerbaijan’s independence,” he added.

Aliyev’s allegations on “double standards” are related to the response of the West on the Azerbaijani authorities’ pressure on the opposition figures. Exactly due to the reaction of the western countries, the authorities had to release part of the political prisoners.
