Over the course of the past 22 years, the events in April were the most serious challenge for the status quo in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian political scientist Sergey Markedonov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
In his words, we can say that although the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) has changed a lot recently, nothing has changed at the same time.
“If we look at the strategic dimension, [we will see that] there are no big changes, since the [Karabakh-Azerbaijan] frontline has not considerably changed,” said Markedonov. “The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, as infrastructure, has been preserved. No major settlement was captured.
“Nonetheless, this [i.e. the four-day war which Azerbaijan had unleashed against Artsakh in early April] was the most serious challenge for the status quo in Nagorno-Karabakh, in 22 years.”
