YEREVAN. - The road construction programs of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank (WB) exceeded the target, Armenian Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication, Artur Arakelyan, said in the parliament Monday, introducing the state budget performance report for 2015.

Specifically, the allocations for the 1st tranche of the concrete North-South motorway and restoration of roads in the region (“Improvement of Roads of Vital Importance”) exceeded the target by 2 bln AMD and 8 bln AMD respectively.

In the framework of the 2nd tranche, Ashtarak – Talin, also funded by ADB, the target was exceeded by 6.28 bln AMD against 4.89 AMD.

Archaeological excavations, land work and preparation of roadbed have been carried out there. During the 3rd tranche of North-South motorway (Talin-Lanjik section), which is funded by the European Investment Bank, 9.7 bln pre-payment was made.

The four-lane concrete North-South motorway will reduce the time of crossing from Iranian to Georgian border, as well as the distance from the current 556 to 495 km at the expense of straightening a number of mountainous sections and constructing new and more direct ones (from the town of Ararat through Vayots Dzor province, till Noravan village of Sisian province and all the way to Kajaran).

The overall cost of the construction will be $960 mln, the ADB being the main project donor (nearly $500 mln).
