Lieutenant Colonel of the Polish Army has been sentenced to prison for espionage in favor of Russia, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Polish media outlets.

“The military court of Warsaw sentenced the officer of the Polish Army, Lieutenant Colonel Zbignev Y., to six years in prison for espionage in favor of Russia,” the court representative said.

The sentence was pronounced on April 26, but it wasn’t announced since the defendant had entered into a bargain with the investigation and pleaded guilty.

The materials of the case are kept secret. According to the non-official information, the defendant allegedly handed to the investigators the names of the Polish servicemen, who might be recruited.

Zbignev Y. will be deprived of civil rights for five years. 17,000 zloty (approx. $4.3 thousand) and a telephone was the alleged award for the illegal activity.

On May 20, it became known that the leader of the pro-Russian Polish Smena party, Mateusz Piskorski, was arrested. He is suspected of espionage in favor of a foreign country. According to Radio Poland, this has to do with China, while the investigators are checking Piskorski’s ties with Russia as well.
