YEREVAN. – Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan of Armenia on Tuesday met with Minister of Justice Mostafa Pourmohammadi of Iran.

General Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the parties underscored the need for more effective cooperation between the two countries, in the legal domain.

They pointed to the issues arising as a result of Iranian visitors’ unfamiliarity with the laws in Armenia. In this connection, Kostanyan highlighted that it is indispensable to develop a clear, detailed, and accessible mechanism for mutual legal assistance.

The Armenian attorney general stressed that statistics show a drop in the crimes committed by Iranian citizens in Armenia and the crimes committed against them in the country.

Pourmohammadi, for his part, presented statistics on Iranian citizens’ visits to Armenia, and according to which, there is a dynamic growth in this regard.

The interlocutors also discussed the fight against drug trafficking, and several other matters of mutual interest.

In addition, Gevorg Kostanyan and Mostafa Pourmohammadi reached an agreement on the work to be carried out toward more effective cooperation.
