Rare Aurora Green diamond - 5.03-carat green stone - has been sold at Christie’s in Hong Kong for record 130 million Hong Kong dollars (nearly $16.8 million USD), the auction house’s website reports.  

The price has thereby beat two records: firstly, it is the most expensive green diamond ever sold at auctions worldwide, and secondly the sum for one carat (3.4 million dollars) was also unprecedented.

The organizers of the auction hoped to get 16 to 20 million dollars for the diamond, RIA Novosti reports.
