Germany is afraid that the adoption of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide  by the Bundestag may put an end to bilateral cooperation with Turkey , writes Der Spiegel.

The newspaper writes that concerns refer first of all to the cooperation in the military sphere, in particular the deployment of German Tornado aircrafts in the territory of Turkey and a joint mission against illegal migrants in the Aegean Sea. The German Defence Ministry has concerns that outraged Turkey might hinder or even stop the implementation of the joint projects.

According to the publication, on  June 2 , before the vote took place, the German Defense Minister Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen discussed with high ranking military official about a possible reaction of Turkey. They have come to the conclusion to take into account possible negative consequences for joint action, given the Turkish President’s whims and unpredictability.

The newspaper reminds that Turkey is a strategic partner of Germany in the fight against the terrorist group Islamic state. The German scout planes that take aero-pictures on the Syrian and Iraqi territories  have been taking off the Turkish Incirlik airplane for several months, even though the formal negotiations on an agreement on their deployment are still continuing. The author notes that discussions are taking place in a tense situation as it is, and the disagreements can complicate their process.

In addition, the resolution might undermine the NATO mission in the fight against businesses of illegal transfer of migrants from Turkey to Greece . The mission is chaired by Germany, which is likely to complicate the talks with Ankara in the issue of the duty belt extension.
