YEREVAN. - I hope that Aliyev’s conduct is a temporary issue, childishness that will quickly pass.
President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said the aforementioned Wednesday at the joint press-conference with the Czech Republic President Miloš Zeman, expressing concern about the unbalanced conduct of Ilham Aliyev in the recent days, the signs of which were absent in Vienna.
Sargsyan specifically said: “At the event entitled “Fourth Congress of World Azerbaijanis” Aliyev delivered a speech, which included cynical qualifications regarding Armenia, distorted ideas regarding history and personal offenses addressed to the country’s president, with whom he is in fact going to discuss issues a few days later. All this formed a precise perception of inadequacy. I hope this is a temporary issue, childishness, which will quickly pass, since we have to seriously work in the future. I [also] hope that this is not a conscious conduct aimed at the breakdown of the Vienna arrangements.”
According to Sargsyan, Armenia highly appreciates the position of the Czech Republic on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement, which is in line with EU’s general stance, being aimed at the complete support of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
“And for this I would like to express special gratitude to Mr President and the Czech Government. We both attached importance to the Vienna agreements of May, including the implementation of the ceasefire agreements of 1994 and 1995, introduction of monitoring and incident investigation mechanisms, as well as the expansion of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, as an important guarantee for the establishment of long-term stability in the conflict zone. And the strict implementation of these measures is the minimal threshold which will allow to pave the way for the constructive and, most importantly, result-oriented negotiations.
Of course, I informed Mr Zeman about the possibility of new meetings of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs with the Azerbaijani President. I also thanked him for offering to use the possibilities of the Czech Republic, Prague, for these meetings,” Sargsyan concluded.
