The main objective of the upcoming talks between the presidents of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan is to be insured from a resumption of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, according to RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

“Now, the main goal is (…) not to allow for the work, which existed at the time of resumption of violence in Karabakh, to be lost,” said Peskov.

In his words, the forthcoming negotiations will be difficult.

He also explained that Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday will conduct meetings with the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

“The [Russian] President will hold separate meetings with Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan at first, [and] then a tête-à-tête with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev,” informed Dmitry Peskov. “Subsequently, a tête-à-tête will be conducted, then a working breakfast, already comprising the three presidents.”
