YEREVAN. – The fact that the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan are meeting and a conversation is taking place aimed at the establishment of confidence measures, is already a good sign.

French Ambassador to Armenia Jean-François Charpentier stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Tuesday. He noted this reflecting on Monday’s talks between the presidents of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan, in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The diplomat recalled that two meetings have already been held between the Armenian and the Azerbaijani presidents in one month.

“The fact that the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan are meeting and a conversation is taking place aimed at the establishment of confidence measures, is already a good sign, since there can be no political solution without dialogue,” said Charpentier.

The French ambassador noted that there is a very important idea in the statement issued as a result of the meeting in Saint Petersburg, and that is: to hold regular talks.

“Since there can be no mutual recognition process without dialogue, whose objective is to understand and visualize the position of the other party,” noted the French ambassador.

Jean-François Charpentier also stressed yet again that France stands ready to assist in the Karabakh conflict negotiation process.
