YEREVAN. – Russian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volinkin stated that work is underway toward resuming the operation of the Abkhazian railway, and that this railway link, which is important to Armenia, could reopen, according to Zhamanak newspaper.
“The impression is that, against the backdrop of Saint Petersburg, Russia is attempting to put the Abkhazian railway ‘candy’ in Armenia’s mouth. (…) and the Saint Petersburg talks [on Monday between the presidents of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan] (…) actually reflected the problems for Armenia.
“Why is Russia once again taking the candy of sham out of its pocket and making some statements about the prospects for the [re]opening of the Abkhazian railway?
“It means that Moscow has nothing to offer to Armenia, both in the security and the economic arena,” wrote Zhamanak.
