The referendum held in Great Britain on June 23, where the majority of citizens voted in favor of staying outside the EU , has sad results for Europe and for Denmark, announced the Danish Prime Minister Lykke Rasmussen, reports RIA Novosti.

On Thursday a referendum on the country's withdrawal from the EU took place. According to official data, 51.9 percent voted in favor Brexit.

“We must respect the choice that a majority of the British people have made. At the same time, I won’t hide the fact that I think it is a very sad result for Europe and for Denmark,” said the Danish Prime Minister. He added that he hopes that the UK will continue to preserve close relations with the EU.

According to him the British referendum results do not change the fact that Denmark remains a member of the EU, which is the best opportunity for Denmark to influence the world. Rasmussen said that the British referendum, as well as the referenda held in Netherlands and Denmark are good reasons for reflection, since there is much skepticism among the population of the EU. Therefore, the EU member states should pay attention to the issues that the population has a concern about.
