YEREVAN. - Pope Francis had no reason not to use the word “genocide” during his visit to Armenia, Father Federico Lombardi, Director of the Holy See Press Office, said at a briefing for local and foreign journalists Friday, touching on the worsening of relations between Vatican and Ankara.

In his words, the reality is quite apparent: the Pope said “genocide” and characterized what genocide is. “There is no problem. I think a tragedy took place. The reality is apparent: We have never denied the reality. Yes, the Pope used the word “genocide”. He said “the first genocide of the 20th century”, Federico Lombardi stressed.
