YEREVAN. - The representatives of Armenian Human Rights Defender’s staff on Saturday visited the Alternative Punishment Division of Armenia’s Justice Ministry’s Criminal-Executive Department, where the son of Armenian political prisoner Shant Harutyunyan, Shahen Harutyunyan, had been taken.
The Ombudsman’s staff noted that they had a private talk with Shahen Harutyunyan, his attorney and his mother. No complaints were presented about violence toward Harutyunyan by the police or criminal-executive officers. The proportionality of Harutyunyan’s detention was discussed with his attorney. Besides, the sides considered the possibility to file a relevant complaint with the Human Rights Defender. Shahen Harutyunyan has been released now.
