YEREVAN. – On the one hand, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is blackmailing, on the other hand, he has no idea about peace talks; neither his demeanor nor style will change.

Tevan Poghosyan, secretary of the opposition “Heritage” Faction of the National Assembly of Armenia, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am. He noted this reflecting on Aliyev’s statement that Azerbaijan continues to buy weapons, modernize its army, and in this respect, it does not depend on a single source.

“The [Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)] Minsk Group co-chairs need to make an initiative at the UN and apply a mechanism of  sanctions against the country that sells weapons to Azerbaijan,” said Poghosyan. “This is Azerbaijan’s demeanor, and it doesn’t cause surprise in any sense. Nor will he [i.e. Aliyev] ever think about a peaceful settlement [to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict] and stop buying weapons and ammunition.

“We [i.e. the Armenian side to the conflict] need to impose peace ourselves; no one will do this in our stead. (…) If we have an army that is more combat-ready than [that of] Azerbaijan, there will be peace.”
