YEREVAN. - Pope Francis' visit to Armenia has a pan-Christian significance, since this was a visit to the first Christian nation, Armenian Deputy FM Shavarsh Kocharyan said in an interview with German newspaper Die Tagespost.

In his words, the enthusiasm of the Armenian community is also thanks to the position of Pope Francis on the Armenian Genocide.

In this context, the Deputy FM expressed gratitude to all the countries, which have recognized the Armenian Genocide.

In fall, Pope Francis plans to visit Georgia and Azerbaijan. ''I believe that the visit of Pope Francis will become a message of peace and tolerance to the region,'' Kocharyan stressed.
