A spokesman for the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, made a very important step to improve relations in a letter to Vladimir Putin, RIA News reported.

“You know that Russia and President Putin held a very consistent position. President Putin has repeatedly stated the desire to maintain good relations with Turkey and the Turkish people,” Pesov said, adding that  necessary conditions have to be created for normalization.

At the same time, he noted that the problem cannot be solved in a few days.

Earlier, Prime Minister Turkish Binali Yildirim said that Turkey is ready to pay compensation to Russia for the downed Su-24.

Foreign media saw the apology of Turkish President as a sign of fear for isolation and a geopolitical calculation.
