YEREVAN. - The delegation led by the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills on Tuesday visited the country’s Defense Ministry to get familiarized with the functions, capacities and infrastructures of its Human Rights and Integrity Center.

In the framework of the visit, the guests met with the First Deputy Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan. The meeting addressed issues on the development of human rights defense capacities and mechanisms, integration of human rights and integrity concepts in the framework of defense policy, as well as development of anti-corruption programs.The sides also reflected on the possibilities to develop new cooperation directions.

Together with Deputy Minister Davit Tonoyan, the delegation members visited the Armenian MOD Human Rights and Integrity Center, where they were briefed on the key directions of the Center’s activity.

In his address, Ambassador Mills noted that one of the main priorities of the U.S. Government worldwide is the strengthening of human rights and work with their partners in order to ensure the implementation and protection of human rights for everyone. He expressed satisfaction with the fact that the Ministry works with such partners as education experts and civil society. 

The Armed Forces, which respect human rights and fight corruption and abuses, are strong and powerful, and the people can thus be proud of such Armed Forces, he noted.
