PARIS. – The quarterfinals in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Euro 2016, which France is hosting, will kick off Thursday. 

People are saying that the most interesting is still ahead, since no accidental squads appear in this phase.

But I do not agree with this view too much, since I believe that Portugal have made it to the quarterfinals by luck.

Many believe that either the winner of the Italy-Germany quarterfinal clash or the host nation, France, will ultimately lift the coveted Euro 2016 Cup.

Wales will kick off against Belgium on Friday, and the Belgians are the clear favorites.

The Euro 2016 sensations, the most liked national team of the tournament, Iceland, on Sunday will play against France. The Icelandic fans, however, are realistic, and they say their squad will be unable to beat the host nation.

My round of 16 predictions came true, except for the Croatians. And my quarterfinal predictions are as follows: Portugal will beat Poland, Belgium will defeat Wales, Germany will overcome Italy, and France will surmount Iceland.

Great football is finally returning to us.

They say the most exciting games are played in the quarterfinals and the semifinals, and it shall be so.
