YEREVAN. – The next Serzh Sargsyan-Ilham Aliyev post-April meeting, which is planned to be held in Paris, will bring no substantial change.

Ambassador Ara Papyan, Modus Vivendi Center Director and political scientist, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Tuesday.

“It will be [just] another meeting,” added Papyan. “They will urge to resolve the matter [i.e. the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict] pacifically. An attempt will be made to pressure Armenia, and impose a conceding of territories, because Armenia is a weak side.”

Papyan also did not rule out the possibility of the resumption of war. In his view, this is expected because Russia continues to sell arms to Azerbaijan.

And reflecting on the prospects for the deployment of trust mechanisms along the line of contact between Karabakh and Azerbaijan, the analyst noted that the way in which the respective monitoring will be conducted at the border is crucial.

“If they will only increase the number of observers, this will not be effective,” noted Ara Papyan. “If checking devices are installed, this may be effective for collection of information. The political matter will remain, but Russia and Azerbaijan are against it, too.”
