Turkey should not go too far to restore order after the failed military coup attempt, stated John Kerry by the end of a breakfast meeting with the foreign ministers of the EU countries , reports TASS.

“We firmly urge the government of Turkey to uphold the highest standards of respect for the nation’s democratic institutions and the rule of law…. Do not  go too far…Obviously a lot of people have been arrested and arrested very quickly,” he noted.

Kerry reminded Turkey that he, as a NATO member , is obliged to fully protect human rights. In her turn, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Federica Mogerinin reminded Turkey of its obligations as a European Council member and a candidate for the EU membership.
