YEREVAN. – Police are detaining activists who gathered in Liberty Square of Yerevan to express their support for an armed group that seized police station on Sunday.

The public debate organized by “No to Plunder” initiative has started, the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reports. Several minutes later some activists, among them Davit Sanasaryan and the son of MP Nikol Pashinyan, were detained.

Chief of Yerevan police Ashot Karapetyan said they would not allow the march to Erebuni where the police station is seized because of the fear of unrest.

Police blocked the road from Northern Avenue to Liberty Square. The situation remains tense.
