YEREVAN. – The ruling Republican Party of Armenia stands for exclusively peaceful resolution of the situation, Deputy Speaker and RPA spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov said after a meeting of the Supreme Body of the party.

Speaking about seizure of police regiment in Yerevan and expressing condolences to the family of the deceased Colonel Arthur Vanoyan, he said: “There was a tragedy, we lost one of our nation's defenders. The man who was serving his country now and during the Karabakh war.”

The number one task is to settle the situation through negotiations.

“Our law enforcement agencies generally have one goal to reach the solution of this difficult situation without bloodshed. The question why the members of the Republican Party of Armenia did not give interviews, did not present our position, are being voiced. Our silence, and my silence, was caused by the intention not to interfere with the peace talks,” Sharmazanov said.

He believes that tolerance, conscience will win, and it will possible to avoid further bloodshed.

“In Armenia we do not have enemies,” he told reporters. “Now it is not the time to talk about the demands, today number one task is to negotiate.”
