Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova is trying to justify official Moscow’s rhetoric in connection with Turkey and Karabakh settlement.

During the Thursday briefing, Zakharova in fact did not rule out possible Turkey’s involvement in the settlement of Karabakh conflict: “As for involvement of Turkey in the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, as well as in any other settlement, any other negotiations, the peace process - in general, we can talk not only about Turkey - any assistance can be seen from the viewpoint of a constructive interaction. If the state has something positive to add, it seems to me that there cannot be any problems. But again I say, if it is a constructive contribution.”

However, diplomatic efforts of Ms. Zakharova seem to have failed. In spite of ruling out Ankara’s possible participation in the peace process, as it was earlier stated by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairing states, Zakharova started pondering on “possibilities and constructive interaction”, given that Turkey has always defended the interests and justified any action of one of the parties. Zakharova cannot, but know this, and reservation that we can talk not only about Turkey, does not help the situation. However, as a justification for her own negligence, she preferred to blame the journalists.

After the briefing Zaharova published an indignant comment addressing the reporters who “began making a sensation of the response about the alleged Moscow's desire to involve Ankara in the Karabakh settlement”.

In her Facebook message, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled functioning international mechanisms thought to deal with the Karabakh peace process, in particular the work of the OSCE Minsk Group.

“At the same time there are bilateral contacts within the framework of which any country can discuss aspects of itsinternal or external policy. The question is to which extent the attempts' of countries that are not a part of the settlement are constructive,” she wrote.
