YEREVAN. – More than 150 hours have passed since a group of armed men stormed into a capital city Yerevan police station, and took several police officers hostage in Armenia.

The night on Khorenatsi Street was calm with no clashes or incidents. A few stayed on the street until morning.

Many protesters gathered in the area on Friday evening to support an armed group that is keeping hostages. Member of the Founding Parliament Aleg Yengimoshyan and MP Nikol Pashinyan delivered speeches.  The MP said he would not allow those who used alcohol to stay in the area. He offered to gather on Khorenatsi Street at 8 p.m. every day.

Referring to the statement made by Armenia’s first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Pashinyan said the politician has joined Serzh Sargsyan in “implementing the Lavrov plan” on Karabakh.

Hero of Karabakh war, General Valery Balasanyan met with the armed group on Friday. He said the problem of food and medicine for the soldiers held hostage at police headquarters are being solved.

In his Friday statement, President Sargsyan urged the armed group to surrender their arms and release the hostages. He said the authorities would act patiently, adding that this lasts “longer than we can afford”.
