The head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi announced  that Tehran and Moscow are close to signing the agreement on supplying 40 tons of heavy water to Russia, reported the IRNA. " We have made the last  steps to sell 40 tons of heavy water to Russia; the agreement will be signed soon ," the agency quoted Salehi .

Company deputy chief Behruz Kamalvandi  will visit Moscow in near future and will sum up results of the agreement with the Russian side . There is another version: it will be the Russian delegation that will visit Iran , Salehi said.

Iran is allowed to produce heavy water within the framework of Iran’s nuclear  comprehensive joint program, though the amount of production is limited. According to the project , Iran should not preserve more than 130 tons of heavy water .

Water production is not dangerous by itself. However, since its use is directly related to the development of technology of heavy water reactors, a constant monitor is maintained over the those elements of the Iranian nuclear program, reports the RIA Novosti .
