A powerful blast hit as failed asylum seeker set off a bomb in the German city of Ansbach.

The explosion occurred in one of the restaurants in the center of Ansbach on Snday evening. Three of 12 injured are in a critical condition, all are in hospitals.

“A year ago he was denied a refugee status,” Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said.

In the past the man made two suicide attempts and was taken to the local hospital.

The police do not rule out that he might be a member of an extremist group, but there are no such reports yet.

The police official said they had found a mobile phone of the attacker, and they are checking the data.
