EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker stated that the EU would immediately make decision on suspension of negotiations with Turkey on its accession to the EU if it reintroduces the death penalty, Reuters reported.

On July 15 Turkish Armed Forces tried to make a military coup. After the coup attempt, 13,000 people were arrested.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked the government to reintroduce death penalty as it is demanded by Turkish people.

Turkey abolished the death penalty in 2004 for compliance with EU rules. The capital punishment has not been carried out since 1984 in Turkey.
