The Swedish city of Övertorneå has for the second time in history hosted a mosquito catching championship. Winner Kristoffer Ekersund caught 135 “bloodsuckers,” while the last year winner Tommy Kyrö came only third, catching 98 mosquitoes.

Overall, 42 people took part in the competition. According to the rules, they had 15 minutes to catch mosquitoes. Ekersund got 10,000 kronor (approx. $1.200) for his victory. The participants caught 600 to 700 mosquitoes in total, Lenta reports.

The idea of holding such a championship came to the local residents after the city administration banned to cultivate the local forests by insect cleaners.
