YEREVAN. – More than 220 hours have passed since a group of armed men calling themselves “Sasna Tsrer” stormed into a capital city Yerevan police station, and took several police officers hostage in Armenia. 

Supporters of the group again gathered for a rally on Khorenatsi Street on Monday evening.

Politicians, political scientists, members of the Founding Parliament addressed hundreds of people who gathered in Khorentasi Street. The participants declared they demands had not changed: they demand to restore food supply, provide medical assistance, switch on electricity and phones.

Alek Yenigomshyan said they give time till 9 a.m. when they would bring food to Khorenatsi Street. It was decided that MP Zaruhi Postanjyan would be in contact with the police officers to hand over food to “Sasna Tsrer” group.

Followng the rally, participants marched along the streets. The march was joined by MP Nikol Pashinyan.

The armed group has set on fire already the third car as a sign of protest.

A brother of Arayik Khandoyan, a group member, was arrested on Monday. 

A group of armed men stormed into a Yerevan police patrol regiment, on early morning on July 17, and took several police officers hostage. Deputy regiment commander Artur Vanoyan was killed, and four other officers of the law plus one of the attackers were wounded during the ensuing gunfire exchange. On Saturday the hostages were released.

The gunmen demand the release of Jirair Sefilian, an imprisoned opposition activist.
