YEREVAN. – Creation of a joint air defense system with Russia will not affect NATO’s attitude towards Armenia, head of NATO office in the South Caucasus William Lahue said during “Post-Warsaw NATO Summit: Implications for Armenia” discussion.
Armenia will not become a target, as NATO is an organization that is built on the idea of collective security. The deal will not influence partnership with NATO, Lahue assured.
The Alliance is strengthening its presence in the South Caucasus focusing on cooperation with Georgia, the NATO official said. However, he added, that Armenia can also use close cooperation between Georgia and NATO.
The agreement on creation of a joint air defense has been recently ratified by the Armenian parliament.
