YEREVAN. – Detention of reporters in Turkey is a part of disturbing tendency, spokesperson for State Department John Kirby said.

The United States understands the need to hold accountable those responsible for the coup attempt, but detention of reporters is a part of disturbing tendency of restrictions on public expression.

He expeesed concern over the fact that official bodies, including law enforcement agencies and the judiciary, are used for obstruction to a legal political discussion.

Turkish authorities have issued arrest warrants for over 40 journalists.
