German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s golden age came to an end, and it is unknown, whether she will be able to rule the country in dark times as successfully as earlier, Politico reported.

As it is noted, the last decade which coincided with Merkel's stay in power was really Golden Age for Germany. So, the country which is more successful, than the majority, has overcome an economic crisis. Politically she became the dominating force in Europe and in general the country became more liberal, tolerant and good-natured – an attractive place to live.

However, today this progress raises doubts, the author continues. Moods in society have considerably changed after hundreds of thousands of refugees have come to the country. Against fear of mass migration and terrorism, there was a growth of Alternative for Germany right-wing party. Merkel looks more and more weak and vulnerable.

Germany's economy shows some signs of weakness, the edition notes. In particular, problems have arisen at such heavyweights as Volkswagen and Deutsche Bank.

Now the violence has come to the country: the nation was shocked by witnessing terrible attacks for several days, Gazeta reported.
