YEREVAN. - Since the storming of the police regiment [in Yerevan], the authorities have been doing their best to keep an Armenian from laying hand on his compatriot and to prevent bloodshed and new victims.

Armenian National Assembly (NA) Vice President Hermine Naghdalyan told journalists Thursday after the Executive Body meeting of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).

Naghdalyan noted that the situation should have a peaceful settlement, for which the authorities are doing their best. “The issues discussed these days have accumulated during many years and now reforms are being carried out: the RPA worked, is working and will work in that direction. However, all those matters are currently shadowed by one key issue: the issue should be solved without bloodshed. It is important for us and our state to learn correct lessons from all of this.  I think, nobody in our country has the right to take arms and shoot at another. Nobody in Armenia has the right to solve any issue by weapons,” she said.

In Naghdalyan’s words, these events raise concerns both in terms of the further development and strengthening of the state and settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“As to surrendering the lands, we must first understand what we have in reality, what talks can be launched and be held between the Minsk Group Co-Chairs, as well as Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents.  I don’t think anyone can say that the Armenian authorities will ever go and surrender the liberated lands.”

Asked why the RPA forced the Sansa Tsrer armed group to reach the point of taking arms and storming the police station, Hermine Naghdalyan responded that that is a subjective opinion and the RPA wasn’t the one to make them reach that point.

Referring to the doctors in the seized police station, Naghdalyan noted that holding the representatives of the most humanitarian profession hostage is unacceptable, especially considering that they had gone there to provide medical assistance.  “We are very concerned. I hope they will be released and be able to provide medical assistance to those who need it.”
