Turkey's purge after a failed coup attempt is hindering cooperation in the U.S.-led fight against Islamic State, U.S. director of national intelligence James Clapper said.

According to him, the events in Turkey certainly affected the fight against ISIS, Reuters reported.

"It's having an effect, because it's affected all segments of the national security apparatus in Turkey. Many of our interlocutors have been purged or arrested. There's no question this is going to set back and make more difficult cooperation with the Turks”, he added.

In turn, U.S. Central Command Commander Gen. Joseph Votel confirmed that many militaries with whom the American side worked are in jail. According to him, usual operations at the Incirlik base resumed, but he was concerned about the long-term consequences of the coup on further operations on fight against terrorism. According to him, the American side has ways of calming the situation and it uses them.
